DescriptionThis massive red-painted six-board domed storage chest features a heavy lid worked from a single section of tree trunk with added solid side panels. Sturdy wrought iron rattail hinges attach the lid to the chest body, which includes pairs of wrought iron bracket braces on all four side corners and all four bottom edges. Heavy wrought iron bail handles with shaped iron backplates on the left and right sides provide a means to lift the chest. A heavy wrought iron hinged hasp attaches to the lid's center front edge and folds over a large square wrought iron lock plate affixed to the center of the trunk front.
Curatorial RemarksThe extremely large and heavy dome-topped chest measures almost six feet long. It is made even more impressive by the quality of the iron work on it. The red finish appears to be original.
