DescriptionA shaped top with cutout corners is attached to the pedestal by two cleats on its underside that are pinned to a square block at the top of the pillar in such a way as the top can tilt upward for storage. A small brass latch secures the top when in use. The pedestal features a baluster shaped turning over an urn shaped turning. Three curved legs attach to the base of the pedestal.Curatorial RemarksThis tilt top stand, one of the more elaborate of its type from central New Jersey, is distinguished by the articulation of its pedestal turnings, shaped top, and graceful curved legs. The Moreaus did not collect antiques. Rather, they furnished their historic home with inherited family heirlooms, many of which came from the Abijah Applegate homestead in East Windsor, Mercer County.NotesThe number 65 contained within a circle in orange paint denotes an item from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. W. Rhea Moreau of Freehold, Monmouth County.
