DescriptionA small sized candlestand or table consisting of a circular top with a plain rounded edge. A pair of narrow cleats attached to the underside of the top fits on either side of a small wooden block. Wooden pins inserted through the cleats and into the block allow the top to tilt upright for storage. A small brass spring lock holds the top in place when in use. The block sits atop a graceful baluster turned post above three cabriole legs that end in pad or "snake" feet.
Curatorial RemarksThis tilt top candlestand compares very favorably to a virtually identical example labeled by New York cabinetmaker Thomas Burling (w. 1769 - 1797) that sold at Christie's in New York on 21 January 2011, lot 58.
