InscribedThe chair is branded on the underside of the seat, "Property of Mrs. J. A. Haskell." A small adhesive label on the seat underside reads, "From Edith B. Riker Estate."

DescriptionThis chair features a bow back, with seven plain turned spindles passing through a bent medial rail that is through-tenoned into the bow itself. The chair's arm rests end in shaped paddle terminals and are supported by raked baluster turnings. The ovoid saddle seat rests atop four splayed baluster turned legs braced with a bulbous turned "H" shaped stretcher assembly. The chair retains an old dark green finish over an earlier layer of white.
NotesEdith Bartow Riker (1862 - 1932) of New York City was a daughter of Samuel B. and Sara T. Bartow. In 1888 she married John Jackson Riker (1858 - 1932) as his second wife. Edith Riker was a sister in law to Margaret Moore Riker Haskell (Mrs. J. Amory).
