DescriptionA sampler quilt of a variety of cotton fabrics, including plain weave cotton and cotton sateen, with embellishments including embroidery, woven tape, couched bullion (metallic) thread, and stuffed work. The 25 blocks are set with a three-strip tan and white sashing and small Nine Patch blocks at each corner. Most blocks have tan or off-white ground fabrics and are both pieced and appliqued, with four blocks having a dark blue or black background. Four of the dark background blocks are arranged in the center of the quilt, surrounding a light background block for visual interest. Appliqued designs include a United States shield, several basket variations, a sunflower, and a Princeton pennant. Pieced designs include Brown Goose, Bear Paw, House, and Sawtooth Star. The backing is a simple white cotton printed with tiny repeat strawberry motifs. The blocks are quilted with both design and simple outline stitches.Collections
