DescriptionA small doll's quilt in a variation of the Flying Geese pattern, with elongated rectangles straight set five by eight without sashing, in a variety of soft toned printed cottons in stripes, florals, geometrics, and other garment pattern and weight yardage. The piecing appears to be all hand sewn, with a plain off white cotton fabric backing and a thin cotton batting. The quilting, in a hanging diamond pattern, and the narrow white cotton binding, are machine sewn.
Curatorial RemarksThe soft-colored cotton print fabrics - with the exception of the striking dark blue cotton triangle scrap in the lower left corner - are all from late 19th and early 20th century cotton yard goods, all suitable for blouses, simple garments, children's dresses, and similar items. Young girls often practiced their sewing skills by putting together small doll's quilts. Because of their small size, many were packed away and survived. The Association has at least eight doll-sized quilts in its collection.
