Curatorial RemarksA formal portrait photograph of Harvey Jenkins accompanied the portrait.NotesCapt. Daniel D. Hendrickson (1786 - 1858) was born in Middletown, a son of Daniel D. Hendrickson and Elizabeth Stevenson. He married Catherine Bedle and was the father of three sons and a daughter. Hendrickson, a prosperous farmer, served as captain of a militia company which was stationed at Sandy Hook during the War of 1812. He was also active in the establishment of a Reformed Dutch church in Middletown Village in 1836, serving as chair of the Building Committee. Hendrickson’s farm was located on the east side of Laurel Avenue just south of the railroad tracks. The house still stands. Hendrickson and his wife are buried in a small private plot behind the house. The donor was his grandson. Titles on the spines of books depicted in the lower right corner of the portrait include Spectator and Groves Vol. 2.
