Curatorial RemarksThis is one of four related Borden/Hendrickson family portraits given by the donors. NotesAt the time of donation, this portrait was believed to depict Charles B. Hendrickson (1855-1891). However, the work is signed on the reverse “Portrait of D. W. Hendrickson / painted by / H. Jenkins / Oct. 29th 1853.” David Wyckoff Hendrickson was born in Red Bank in 1834, a son of Tobias Hendrickson and Margaret Perrine. A younger brother of James Holmes Hendrickson, he erected a grist mill in Red Bank about 1855 which burned in 1857. Hendrickson married in New York about 1865 to Sarah Elizabeth Worley.
