DescriptionA country step back style cupboard of simple board construction. The cupboard's upper section features an overhanging board top with applied molding below to create the appearance of a cornice. The three fixed open shelves have shallow plate grooves and plate rails with molded edges. The lower section includes a simple board work top with slightly overhanging edges and a shallow groove running widthwise near the cupboard's back for larger plates or platters. Below, two simple rectangular flat panel doors with turned wooden pulls are mounted to the left and right stiles with exterior iron hinges. They flank the wide center stile, which is fitted with a small square drawer opened by a turned wooden pull. The doors open to reveal a single fixed medial shelf. The cupboard sits on simple bracket feet. The piece retains its early red painted surface.
NotesA tag on the backboard of the cupboard reads, "Mary J. Riker / North Farm / Holmdel, N. J. Mary Jackson Riker (Mrs. William C.) served as president of the Association from 1950 to 1967. Their farm straddled Longstreet Road in Holmdel, Monmouth County, just north of the relocated site of the Holmes-Hendrickson House.
