DescriptionA dessert size plate of six inches diameter, of sturdy white earthenware, with an elaborate transfer printed surface. In the center, a well-dressed man and woman are seated at a tilt-top tea table arranged outside under a shady tree, wearing garments that appear to date towards the turn of the 18th century. The man gestures to the viewer's left, where a young African American boy stands pouring tea from a teapot. A small dog appears at the right of the woman. The plate's wide cavetto features a bold floral and foliate wreath. The very edge of the plate is glazed with bright yellow.
