Curatorial RemarksFoot warmers were heated in ovens or on stoves, then wrapped in cloth and used to provide warmth to chilly beds or cold wagons and sleighs during the winter months.NotesIn 1860, Rue and other partners had taken over Swan Hill Pottery at South Amboy. In 1880, the company partnered with H. Arrowsmith, who acquired property and erected two brick buildings and two kilns at Middletown Point, establishing The Rue Pottery Company.
