Curatorial RemarksPrior to modern fire extinguishing devices, fire buckets such as this were used to fight small fires. These buckets were often filled with water or sand, and could be quickly passed down a line of firefighters. This particular bucket belonged to the Resolution Fire Company of Trenton, New Jersey, established in 1804.
