DescriptionA set of 28 wooden dominos, with dots printed on one side, and various promotional sayings on the reverse advertising the company's tomatoketchup, burnt onion sauce, and mayonnaise dressing. The pieces are housed in a long pine box that features a slide-out lid.
Curatorial RemarksIn 1883, Edward Clarke Hazard (d. 1905) built one of the largest and most modern canning factories of its time in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The E.C. Hazard & Co.'s claim to fame was "Shrewsbury Tomatoketchup," which won a gold medal for fine quality at the American Exposition in London, 1887. Following Hazard's death, his son and son-in-law ran the business for a number of years until the factory was destroyed by fire in 1914.
