DescriptionA small rectangular trunk constructed of pine, with a hinged domed lid, iron lockplate, and a brass bail handle set in the top of the lid. The trunk is covered with wallpaper printed in a bold yellow and orange floral and foliate pattern, with a contrasting yellow and brown trim strip along the lid's edges.Curatorial RemarksThis small trunk retains its original wallpaper covering, still virtually as bright as when it was first printed. Wallpaper-covered trunks, bandboxes, hatboxes, and other containers were common throughout the first half of the 19th century. These containers were used during travel as well as for home storage, providing a bright spot of color atop high chests and chests of drawers.
