DescriptionA drum-shaped canteen, with wooden staves held together with 3/8" iron bands. At top is a carved wooden mouthpiece. Inscribed on the canteen in white paint, "J.A.W. / MUS."Curatorial RemarksThis canteen was originally from the military collection of Joseph A. Yard, who collected militaria from both the American Revolution and the Civil War. This particular canteen is likely a Confederate Army type from the Civil War, and could have been picked up by a New Jersey soldier as a battlefield souvenir.
