DescriptionElderly woman facing right in a black dress with lacy day cap, lace cuffs, gold brooch, and folded hands. Seated in a black-upholstered rocking chair with unusual dog-headed arm terminals.
Curatorial RemarksThe rocking chair in which the subject sits, with its unusual dog head shaped arm terminals, accompanied the portrait and is also owned by the Association. This is one of four related Borden/Hendrickson family portraits given by the donors. NotesMary Ann Morris (1806-1881) was a daughter of Joseph Morris and Mary Brewer. In 1832, she married Charles D. Borden of Shrewsbury, partner in a prominent Red Bank lumber and building supply business. She and her husband were interred in the yard of the First Presbyterian Church in Shrewsbury.
