DescriptionA pair of adjustable steel bowed spectacles.
NotesThese spectacles were owned and used by Margaretta Bowne Crawford. Born in Freehold in 1817, Margaretta married James Patterson Crawford in 1836 in the Old Brick Church in Marlboro. The couple had at least eight children and later moved to Brooklyn, New York. The Association has two portraits of Margaretta and James by artist John Bradley, painted around 1845. After the death of her husband, Margaretta lived with her unmarried daughter Rebekah Crawford in Brooklyn until her death in 1910 at the age of ninety-two.
