DescriptionA wooden storage box, featuring a wide drawer in front. A single knob is attached to the drawer, which opens to reveal ten brass and iron scale components as well as three apothecary weights. On the top lid of the box is a brass plate containing two screw holes, where the pieces of the scale can be assembled for use. The central support bar of the scale fits into the larger hole, and an adjustment lever into the smaller.
NotesAccording to Association records, these apothecary scales were once used in a drug store in Allentown, Monmouth County, by the druggist "Mr. Holmes" sometime prior to 1880. The widow of Mr. Holmes presented them to Dr. Clark H. Gordon, who was associated with Carslake's Drug Store in the early 1890's.
