DescriptionThe base consists of two shaped end feet connected by a single board. Two turned legs insert into the subtop with massive dovetails. The top is secured to the subtop with pins. The leaf hinges are handwrought, and marked "WS." Both leaves are made of two boards that are held together with oak battens fastened in place by hand wrought nails. When opened, the leaves are supported by two gate legs that are made up of simple rectangular stock. When closed, the legs fit into cut notches in the board base.NotesAssociation accession records for Marlpit Hall describe "Trestle style table, 2 oval drop leaves" as a gift of Mrs. J. Amory Haskell. It was listed as part of the original furnishings of what was called an office when the house was first opened to the public in 1936.
