NotesGulick used this composition of a tree trunk with a cast iron bird bath in an earlier work entitled Bird Bath with Two Cardinals dated August 1957. This smaller work measured only 12 by 9 inches. The bird bath also appeared as an indoor prop containing Christmas cactuses.
