DescriptionAn almost full-frontal view of an adult female slightly facing right, wearing a black dress, white lace capelet over her shoulders tied with floral patterned ribboned streamers. She also wears long dangling gold earrings, a rectangular cameo depicting a winged figure with draperies, and a long double gold chain with a watch fob at the end. The subject is seated on an red-upholstered sofa against a shaded green background.
Curatorial RemarksDurrie's record book indicates he charged $8.00 for the portrait of Rebecca C. Conover and also the same fee for the portraits of her husband Tunis V. Conover, and two of her three children then living. In need of conservation.NotesRebecca Crawford Conover (1812 - 1897) was a daughter of Hendrick Conover and Anne B. Crawford. In 1830, she married Tunis Vanderveer Conover of Marlboro, Monmouth County. They became the parents of four children, one of whom died young.
