DescriptionA woman's hand fan, with tapered wooden sticks painted a pale matte pink. The left and right stick guards are noticeably thicker, with slightly rounded edges, both stamped with elaborate silver embossed floral and foliate vining. The panel is of pale pink semi-transparent silk georgette, delicately handpainted with sprays of small white flowers with pink and lavender shading.Curatorial RemarksAlthough the owner of this lovely pale pink and silver fan is unknown, the size of the fan itself dates it to close to the turn of the century. By 1890, fans were made in increasingly large sizes, providing visual balance to the large balloon sleeves of the time period.
