DescriptionA man's bucket hat of sturdy woven white cotton canvas, with a gored rounded crown with eyelet vents and a turned-up brim with multiple rows of horizontal machine-stitched bands for stiffening.NotesEdward Joseph Errickson was born in 1902 in South Amboy, New Jersey. As a young man, he joined the Navy in 1922 and served until 1926 when he was honorably discharged. He returned to New Jersey and settled in Keyport, Monmouth County, where he worked as a commercial fisherman. He also owned and operated Ed's Marina in Keyport for many years. He married Teressa Shiinn and the couple had two children, daughters Betty Jane and Elizabeth. According to his daughters, Edward noticed changes in the Raritan Bay and its fish beginning in the early 1950s, attributing it to increased pollution levels. Although Errickson spoke frequently about this, many fellow fisherman and area residents dismissed Errickson's warnings. Edward Joseph Errickson died in 1993 at the age of ninety.
