DescriptionA pair of women's wedding shoes of ivory kid leather, with an elaborate ruched satin bow and ruffle at the front, ornamented with a false shell buckle in the center. The shoes include 1 5/8" self covered French heel. On the shoe underside is stamped a partially illegible maker's mark appearing to read "De Ha[viland?] / 148 N. 8th St. / Phila."
Curatorial RemarksThe underside of the shoe soles are marked with a partially illegible maker's or retailer's mark, appearing to read "De Ha[viland?] located at 148 North 8th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.NotesThese elegant and elaborate wedding slippers were worn by Burlington County resident Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hovey at her marriage to John Allen in 1874.
