DescriptionA small sized side chair, intended as either a doll's chair or small child's chair, made of grain-painted maple and pine, with a woven rush seat. The chair's bow back features a single splat ornamented with a hand-painted polychrome rose spray. The turned front legs, turned front stretcher, bow back, splat, and seat are all highlighted with narrow dark green line painting.NotesDonor William S. Holmes was instrumental in guiding the construction of the Historical Association's headquarters building at 70 Court Street in Freehold. Holmes, born in Freehold in 1876, was highly active in local public life. He served as Freehold Boro's first mayor after its creation in 1919, until 1926. Holmes was the Association's first director until his death in 1948. Through his years as director, Holmes donated a wide variety of Monmouth-related objects, artifacts, and archival materials.
