DescriptionTwo barefoot boys dressed in khaki shorts, floppy hats, and long sleeve shirts rolled up above their elbows talk with each other while sitting on a sand dune covered with dune grass. The beach is to the right, looking north, with an azure blue sea and light waves breaking on the sand. The sky is partly cloudy and a sailing vessel appears in the distance offshore.
Curatorial RemarksGeorge Cochran Lambdin (1830 - 1896) was one of a large number of Philadelphia artists who visited the Jersey Shore between 1870 and 1910. He studied art with his father, James Reid Lambdin, and began exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1848. Lambdin spent most of his career in Philadelphia, and is best known for sentimental genre scenes and portraiture of children.NotesThis colorful watercolor depicts Manasquan Beach, Monmouth County, looking north along the coast.
